West Ottawa

West Ottawa High School believes in providing opportunity and access to all students in the form of course offerings and extra-curricular activities. Students have the opportunity to select from over 200 courses including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Project Lead the Way, Early College, Dual Enrollment along with an extensive offering of elective courses. There are more than 30 extra-curricular clubs, 29 inter-varsity sports and numerous state renowned performing and fine arts programs for students to get involved and connected at WOHS. The caring and highly qualified staff at WOHS is dedicated to “preparing students to be college, career and life ready.”

MeetMrs. Jernigan

Mrs. Kristine Jernigan was named as the first female principal in West Ottawa High School History in February of 2022. She is the daughter of a former West Ottawa Administrator, a graduate from West Ottawa Public Schools, a former math teacher as well as math department chair at the high school, and a former High School assistant principal. Most recently, Mrs. Jernigan served as the principal of Lakeshore Elementary School and helped guide Lakeshore to National Blue Ribbon Status in the fall of 2021. Mrs. Jernigan earned both her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and her Masters in Education from Michigan State University. As a self-described “Panther for Life,” Mrs. Jernigan herself has lived out the district mission of preparing students to be college, career, and life ready.

As we looked into different school options we were impressed by the staff and administration at WOHS. They answered all of our questions and made us feel like they truly wanted our son at West Ottawa. His passion for music was supported, encouraged, and pushed to grow by the music department. We look forward to our youngest child joining the WOHS family in a few years.
