The Dunes Alternative
In a community environment, The Dunes’ students attend school every day and participate in online learning, physical activity and regular social emotional learning experiences. Students understand the objective of earning a high school diploma and developing a post-secondary plan with the assistance of our caring and passionate staff.

MeetMrs. Jernigan
Mrs. Kristine Jernigan was named as the first female principal in West Ottawa High School History in February of 2022. She is the daughter of a former West Ottawa Administrator, a graduate from West Ottawa Public Schools, a former math teacher as well as math department chair at the high school, and a former High School assistant principal. Most recently, Mrs. Jernigan served as the principal of Lakeshore Elementary School and helped guide Lakeshore to National Blue Ribbon Status in the fall of 2021. Mrs. Jernigan earned both her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and her Masters in Education from Michigan State University. As a self-described “Panther for Life,” Mrs. Jernigan herself has lived out the district mission of preparing students to be college, career, and life ready.
