Welcome to our Alumni Spotlight “Then and Now” Series!
In their own words…
My favorite memory from my time at WOHS was definitely participating in PALs. The cohort I was a part of was a really special group of juniors and seniors, and we created a lot of wonderful memories together during our preparatory class. I also had the pleasure of working with elementary students at Woodside where my mom worked and that really helped me discern what my ultimate career path would be.
Since graduation, I have been teaching elementary general music and middle school orchestra – now at WO! It been amazing to be back at my Alma mater, walking the same halls I did as a high school student, mentoring 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in their musical and life endeavors. My husband and I built a house on the north side of town almost three years ago, and our kids attend some of the same schools I went to growing up. I have always had strong ties to the fine arts programs around Holland, and have worked as a dance instructor for Avalon School of the Arts for the past 18 years and with the Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras programming as the general manager and conductor of their Junior String beginning orchestra. I am so proud to be a part of the West Ottawa orchestra program, and am thankful to have been a director during a historic year where all of our string ensembles in middle and high school received a first division rating at MSBOA District 10 festival. West Ottawa gave me the foundation I needed to succeed in college and beyond, and I love that I have the opportunity to provide the same high quality educational experience for my students each and every day.
