Please consider advertising with us. WOBN programs reach WO high school students on a daily basis, and in the evenings the shows are rebroadcast to the entire to community.
9th-11th graders can now apply to be part of next year's WOBN team.
At WOBN we learn about broadcast journalism by doing broadcast journalism. All of our programs are completely student produced. We keep very busy working on the many skills that it takes to create a successful program. Two teams of students meet first and second hour every day. Our daily job is to produce a morning and afternoon program to be viewed by the high school and the West Ottwawa Community.
All WOBN team members are responsible to learn all of the many jobs and tasks that are necessary to produce a program. The control room is where a lot of the work takes place. We can see through a set of windows into the studio. In this room the audio person, director, graphics person, switcher, and tape operator work together. This is both an exciting and stressful place to be.
In the studio, the two anchors sit behind the desk and deliver the news program reading off of the telepromters. There are three camera operators in the studio that wear headsets and communicate with the director in the control room. There is one more student in the studio that controls the telepromter and the lights.
WOBN is open to all 10th -12th graders at West Ottawa. It is a full year (three trimesters) course. All high school students may take the Intro to Broadcast Journalism class to learn about broadcast journilsm. The intro course is only one trimester, and in most cases it serves as a prerequisite for WOBN.
