West Ottawa High School
West Ottawa High School is proud to offer the highly regarded IB Diploma Program. This program provides a challenging, internationally focused, broad and balanced educational experience for junior and senior students. Students work with IB trained teachers to study university level course work that prepares them for post-secondary success. The Diploma Program is recognized by colleges and universities worldwide.
• Group 1 (Language A1): Study of literature in student's first language, including selections of world literature.
• Group 2 (Second Language): Promote understanding of another culture through the study of a second language.
• Group 3 (Individuals and Societies): Develop a critical appreciation of history, historical events, and human experience and behavior.
• Group 4 (Experimental Sciences): Study and apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze, evaluate and synthesize scientific information.
• Group 5 (Mathematics): Develop and apply mathematical knowledge, concepts and principles using analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Group 6 (The Arts): Study will allow a high degree of adaptability to different cultural contexts. Emphasis on creativity in diverse and enriching environments.
• Theory of Knowledge: Students become aware of their own learning by examining different ways of knowing.
• Extended Essay: Students engage in independent research by selecting a topic from one of the IB subject areas.
• CAS (Creativity, Action, Service): Students learn to balance the demands of a rigorous academic program with personal life experience beyond the classroom.
